Icaro Ice 2XC

The ICE 2XC is a pedigreed distance wing, optimised for handling, performance and safety and of course XC is not in the name for no reason! New on this design is a flap system, the new Air Intake System, which is positioned in the bottom sail at the end of the wing. It provides a higher internal pressure in this part of the wing. As a result you have a more solid canopy with increased security against a soft outer wing and less susceptibility to tip folds & asymmetric collapses. Thus it was possible for our development team to arrange even more precise handling with better security. The ICE 2XC excels both in rough spring thermals and in weak conditions, with excellent climbing characteristics and lends itself well to smooth and secure thermalling. The new ICE 2 XC guarantees a dynamic flight feeling to XC sport class pilots, with simple launch characteristics and high safety potential.

"The curiousity was great. What do the modifications (Air Intake System and optimized trim) to the ICE 2 XC do in comparison to the predecessor model ICE? It wasn't long before anticipation gave way to enthusiasm.

At the Col Rodella I brought the glider up the first time with not completely optimal conditions and had a good feeling right away. The ICE 2XC raised beautifully evenly over me. It does not overshoot, the tips stay opened and it is simple to stabilize. On the way to the first source of thermals I tested the acceleration and was pleasantly surprised. The accelerator bar can be depressed without initial resistance more easily and above all, better than with the "old" ICE, a genuine improvement and the ICE 2XC increases its speed briskly. In the thermals it can be moved beautifully flat and converts itself also in weak up winds effectively at height. With rather stuben conditions (north wind in the Dolos, mixed with rough autumn thermals – yes, I know one should not fly then -) the ICE 2XC convinces me of its safety potential. The stabilizers indicate very sensitively thermal transition, so that I can work against potential asymmetric collapses right at the beginning. Also in safety training the ICE 2XC shows high security reserves for a DHV 2 class wing. "
